New Inductees Enter Athletic Hall of Fame

The SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sport & Exercise will induct five new Fighting Tigers into the Athletic Hall of Fame 2018 during this fall’s Homecoming and Family Weekend.

APRIL RUTLEDGE (ACKERMANN) ’08

Women’s Cross Country, Track & Field, Basketball
In 2006 alone, April won two Mountain Valley Conference Championships, along with four more high honors in Cross Country events. She won another Mountain Valley Conference championship and a First-Team Cross Country award in 2008 from the All-Mountain Valley Conference. April earned several high honors in Cross Country in 2007 and was named 2008’s Fred Bennett Female Athlete-ofthe- Year.

JUSTIN DUFEL ’04

Men’s Swimming & Diving
Over the course of his 2003 and 2004 participation in the Mountain Valley Conference Championships, Justin earned individual championship honors in 10 separate swimming events and led his Fighting Tigers teams to two consecutive Conference Championships. He was also named a 2004 NJCAA Coaches Association All-American in swimming and was that year’s Men’s Swimming & Diving Team MVP.

PRINCE JACKSON ’05

Men’s Basketball
Prince won either First-Team or Player of the Year honors in 2003 and 2004 from the All-Mountain Valley Conference and the NJCAA, with the latter also naming him 2004’s First Team All-American. Additionally, he was that year’s SUNY Cobleskill Stanley Nevins Male Athlete-of-the-Year. When Prince graduated, he left as the Fighting Tigers’ All-Time Leading Scorer with 1,132 points.

RICKY SOWELL ’83

Men’s Lacrosse
After playing lacrosse at SUNY Cobleskill in 1982 and 1983, Ricky embarked on a coaching career that would take him to Washington College, Georgetown, Dartmouth, St. John’s and SUNY Stony Brook, often guiding his teams to new prominence. Ricky’s final stop was the U.S. Naval Academy where he has helped the Midshipmen return to the national spotlight.

JENNIFER VILLANOVA ’11

Women’s Track & Field
During 2007 and 2008, Jennifer won numerous championships in a number of different Track & Field events, including awards from the Mountain Valley Conference Championships and in NJCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor competitions. She was also the Women’s Track & Field Team MVP for 2007 and 2008, and 2008’s NJCAA Female Field Event Athlete of the Meet.
