Propelled by the momentum of NEAC naming a record 43 Scholar Athletes, the Fighting Tigers reached new heights in the Fall 2018 athletic seasons. Two runners, Natalie Honken ‘22 and Dillon VanDemortel ’22, completed impressive debut seasons for the Women’s and Men’s Cross Country teams respectively. Honken earned top 10 finishes in fields of 71 and 231 runners in her season, before earning First Team All-NEAC honors at the Conference Championships, finishing sixth in an 84-runner field. VanDemortel won four NEAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week recognitions in his first season in orange and black, in a campaign he highlighted with four first place finishes.
The SUNY Cobleskill Men’s Soccer team authored a season marked by individual awards and team success. A penalty kick victory in the first round of the NEAC Championship Tournament qualified the Fighting Tigers for their first Tournament semifinal appearance since 2008, after entering the Tournament for the first time since 2009. Gregoire Diedhiou capped the squad’s most successful season in a decade when NEAC named him its Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year. Diedhiou, a junior, is the first Fighting Tiger to win a major NEAC postseason soccer award. NEAC named three members of both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams to All-Conference teams.
